Social Support System
A Social Support System Built on Skills, Not Handouts
Mithrakulam doesn't run on one-off donations. Instead, we focus on making the best use of existing resources, building real skills, and partnering with businesses through CSR collaboration — all aimed at helping people become self-reliant, with dignity, on their own terms. That approach comes together in four pillars.
1.The Mithrakulam Commune
An inclusive shared-living community for people who are often isolated by mainstream society, including:
- Transgender individuals
- LGBT+ community members
- Single parents
- Senior citizens
- Persons with disabilities
The commune is built around shared living and mutual support — a stable, safe environment where residents look out for one another, for people who may not have that kind of support elsewhere.
2. Empowerment Hub
Skills training and business support designed to create real, sustainable income, including the Jackfruit Value Addition course, home care product manufacturing, clothing upcycling training, and the Second Life resource banks that collect, sort, and resell used goods.
3. Crisis Intervention & Shelter
Short Stay Home provides urgent, temporary accommodation for people going through a serious personal or family crisis. We work directly with local NGOs, community members, and the police, so people in crisis have a fast, reliable way to reach safe shelter.
4. Elderly & Community Care
Kerala has a growing number of elderly people without consistent local family support. Our Compassionate Companion Course trains people to care for, listen to, and support elderly community members, addressing that gap directly.
