A Safe Place to Stay, When Home Isn't
Everyone deserves a safe, stable place to live. But sometimes home stops being that — because of conflict, rejection, or loss. When that happens, where do you go? Mithrakulam's Short Stay Home offers temporary shelter and hands-on community support for anyone facing a housing crisis caused by their personal circumstances. You're not alone, and you don't have to figure it out by yourself.
Who This Is For
You might need Short Stay Home if:
- You’re in an unsafe living situation — for example, ongoing conflict at home — and need to get out before it becomes dangerous
- You’re a young person who has been rejected or thrown out by your family, including for being transgender
- You’re an older parent who has been sidelined or left to fend for yourself after handing over your property to your children
- You left your family and community to be with your partner, and now find yourself raising a child alone after that relationship ended
- You’ve lost your partner, through death or separation, and need support while raising your child on your own
What We Provide
Short Stay Home is more than a place to sleep. Depending on what you need, we help arrange:
- Social support — a community around you while you get back on your feet
- Legal help — guidance and assistance with the legal side of your situation
- Work opportunities — support finding employment so you can support yourself
- Childcare and caregiving — help looking after your child, organised through mutual support within the community
What Short Stay Home Is — and Isn't
Short Stay Home is a community support initiative, not a housing or real estate project. We don’t build, own, or manage permanent housing or infrastructure. What we do is connect people going through a crisis with temporary shelter and the social, legal, and practical support that helps them move forward on their own terms.
